Capybaras are listed as least concern, and are generally doing very well in the wild. They do however inhabit the Amazon rainforest, which is being threatened. Capybaras do well in captivity, and have a large captive population. If something were to threaten the capybara, they would be well supported for potential rehabilitation efforts.
