In the Wild

In the wild, capybaras are very social creatures! They live together in large social groups, and are never usually seen alone. Their social groups can range from 10 members to as large as 40!

In general, capybaras are peaceful. They are predated by jaguars, crocodiles, and anacondas, however have been seen peacefully coexisting with predators. In general, their demeanor is very calm, and they are not uncomfortable around other species.

In Captivity

Though capybaras require a lot of space, time, and energy to keep, in general they make great pets. Their calm and sociable personality allows them to get along with other domestic animals like cats, dogs, and other livesock. They can be trained to do tricks, and walked on a leash as well!

Due to the spread of viral videos on the internet, capybaras have become quite the popular and trendy animal. Capybaras are popular in memes, due to their funny antics and adorable appearance.
